by Susan van de Ven on 17 June, 2023

Many thanks to all who came along last Sunday for our annual ride/walk/scoot.  We’re really grateful for all the help behind the scenes, and to everyone who came along to enjoy the occasion.

Lots of photos here:

And thanks to the Royston Crow for continuing to support our campaign for a bridge to connect Melbourn and Royston over the A505:

We have been talking for years about a bridge over the A505, it probably won’t happen in my lifetime. But I notice that there is going to be a large housing development north of the A505 and east of the A10. There is already a pedestrian tunnel beneath the A505 at the far East end of Garden Walk in Royston. Presuming this housing is going to be built up to the A505. It would seem sensible to look at the possibility of having a cycle path go through the estate to Melbourn. It would have the advantage of being away from the main noisy and busy A10.
    Just an idea.

    • Yes, getting new infrastructure built in the UK takes forever. We did look at that tunnel some years ago; there were various problems with the route, mainly that it would require such a diversion. The plan for the bridge is now quite advanced so that is our best hope. A funded scheme was approved on 28 September. If things go according to plan the projected construction would be in 2026.
