Liberal Democrat Councillor for Bassingbourn, Litlington, Melbourn, Meldreth and Whaddon Learn more

On the night the Prime Minister shuts down Parliament, just because he can, how many thousands of parish councils have continued with their village hall meetings – as unpaid volunteers?
Thanks to parish councils, dog poo bins are organised, pot hole repairs are tracked, planning applications are responded to, street lights are managed, recreation grounds are looked after, grant applications are considered, and local people are provided a forum to be listened to. All in a setting of diminishing government support to local authorities, and increasing burdens on parish councils.
Now that the PM has got five weeks off, he should get back to basics and find out what’s going on in his country.
