Liberal Democrat Councillor for Bassingbourn, Litlington, Melbourn, Meldreth and Whaddon Learn more

Thank you and getting started

Following last week’s Cambridgeshire County Council elections, I’m delighted to take on the role of County Councillor for the new Melbourn and Bassingbourn Division. This also includes the villages of Meldreth and Whaddon. Thank you very much for the support I’ve received from so many people. The election results are here.

While the boundary changes were imposed from outside and broke up long-standing sensible village clusters, and while each of the four villages in the new division has its own distinctive character and issues of concern, there are some strong common interests, particularly in the realm of local transport links and children’s services. I look forward to working together on all the issues.

I’ll shortly be arranging monthly surgery dates and will continue to send out a monthly email newsletter, together with my Melbourn and Meldreth District Council colleagues Jose Hales and Phillipa Hart – please let me know if you’d like to receive the newsletter.

I should add a note to explain the continuing presence of the yellow Liberal Democrat election signs dotted around the villages, which normally would have come down by now. As you know, in the middle of the County election campaign Theresa May called a snap general election. Since last summer I’ve been the Liberal Democrat candidate for South Cambridgeshire, in the event of a snap general election. So in these fast changing times I find myself in the unusual position of being an election candidate for a bit longer. All the local issues I’ve been campaigning on as a councillor have a direct connection to national government policies, so I feel compelled to do my part to hold the government to account in this additional role.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.
