Superfast Broadband Progress, Meldreth and Shepreth

by Susan van de Ven on 25 September, 2016

The Connecting Cambridgeshire team attended September parish council meetings in Meldreth and Shepreth, to update residents on the Superfast Broadband roll-outs in those areas that had been missed out, for various reasons. This was followed up by correspondence to all those residents who had been in touch with inquiries (and please do get in touch with us if you have any other queries about these or other areas) – both from Connecting Cambridgeshire.

Shepreth: ‘We raised a change with BT to request them to investigate solutions and costs for providing superfast broadband to Frog End. They have committed to deliver superfast broadband to the premises in Frog End (SG8 6RF) with a Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) solution within the next 12 months. This will enable all premises to access superfast broadband. The basic range of superfast broadband packages (such as Infinity) will be available, but the FTTP solution means that those who want faster speeds of up to 330Mbps will be able to order a faster service. The take-up of new fibre services already rolled out across Cambridgeshire has been so high that BT have returned early gain share monies to the programme and we are using this funding to plan a phase 3 roll-out to cover some of the more tricky areas across the County. Dunsbridge Turnpike and Shepreth lakes premises are included in the intervention area for the phase 3. Phase 3 is likely to run from 2017 to 2019/2020. BT have started the planning to identify how many premises they are able to cover. We will know more in the coming months and will keep you updated.’

Meldreth: ‘I’m emailing to update you on the latest position on plans for superfast broadband coverage in Burtons and Mary’s Way in Meldreth. The results of the public consultation we ran in early summer revealed that the broadband provider who originally said they had plans to deliver superfast broadband into your area no longer has plans to do so and therefore the good news is that we are able to bring your postcodes into the Connecting Cambridgeshire programme. Mary’s Way and Burtons are now included in our plans for further superfast broadband roll-out. We are currently planning the delivery of phase 3 of the programme to follow on from the current phase which runs until Summer 2017. We have asked BT to look at solutions to cover your areas but it will be a couple of months before we know any more about the proposed solutions or timescales.’
